About Us

United in Design (UiD) was founded in 2020 by Sophie Ashby and Alexandra Dauley in response to the lack of inclusion in the interior design industry. Recognizing the significant barriers that people of color face in accessing opportunities within the field, they established UiD as a British diversity, equity, and inclusion charity to create pathways for underrepresented talent.

The charity was built on the principles of mentorship, education, and industry collaboration, offering internships, training programs, and partnerships with design firms to ensure a more inclusive future for the industry. Since its founding, UiD has worked with leading design companies, educators, and professionals to drive systemic change and provide meaningful career opportunities.

Vision

As a Charitable Trust United In Design (UiD) envisions a future where the interior design industry is fully inclusive and equitable of all backgrounds—driving innovation and global competitiveness. We see a sector where underrepresented ethnicities, and minorities have equal opportunities to thrive, shaping the industry's future through diverse perspectives. By developing skills, closing the knowledge gap and fostering inclusion through our community programs we believe the UK’s interiors industry will strengthen its global competitiveness, driving innovation and lasting change.

Mission

At United In Design (UiD) Our Mission is to drive cross-sector collaboration at the service of the interior design industry by creating pathways to ‘access’ through insight & foresight, upskilling, mentorship, and Internship, through work-readiness initiatives for underrepresented communities and social identities.

Through transformative programs, strategic partnerships, and vital resources, UiD fosters an inclusive and equitable environment, strengthening the industry from within and driving lasting change that fuels growth and innovation.n.
