City of London Careers Expo: Inspiring the Next Generation of Interior Design Talent
The City of London Careers Expo provided a fantastic opportunity for students to explore future pathways in the interior design industry, and we were proud to represent the creative sector alongside many other industries. Held on Tuesday, 4th February, the event was organised by the Education and Strategy Department of the City of London and brought together approximately 1,800 students, eager to learn about different career options.
As part of our commitment to nurturing diverse talent, United in Design engaged with an estimated 100 students during the event. We mentored 12 students in interior design and interior architecture from under-represented communities, in a session organised by Generation Success. Led by Eman Akbar (Executive Director, UiD), Ananth Ramaswamy (Founder, Ananth Arall Studio), and Janet (United in Design), we were truly inspired by the students’ enthusiasm, curiosity, and aspirations. We were honored to guide these young minorities in their journey towards the interior design industry.
A special shout-out to our future design stars from: St. Michael’s, Mulberry School, Plumstead Manor, Platanos College, Ark Burlington Danes Academy, Mark Hall Academy, Halley Academy, Thomas Tallis, St. Helen's, Azhar Academy.
The Expo was a wonderful opportunity to engage with employers, colleges, and training providers, showcasing the wealth of opportunities available within the UK economy and putting the creative industry at the forefront of key economic sectors. It also highlighted how the UiD Career Pathway can open doors for young talent aspiring to enter the world of interior design. More importantly, it demonstrated how the skills and experience gained through interior design equip young learners with exceptional life skills and soft skills that are essential for success in the 4th Industrial Revolution and an increasingly automated society.
Careers fairs like these play a crucial role in connecting students with industry professionals, helping them gain insights, and inspiring them to take the next step in their careers. We look forward to continuing these conversations and meeting even more students at the next event!
